Do you feel like there’s more inside you?

More creativity. More depth. More you.

But between your job, family, to-do lists, and everyday chaos, there’s barely any room to even discover what exactly is lying dormant inside — let alone how to awaken it?

Then I want to introduce you to a book that met me exactly at that point:

„The Artist’s Way“ by Julia Cameron.

What kind of book is this?

The Artist’s Way isn’t a typical book you just read and then put aside.

It’s more like a carefully structured 12-week course — with a new chapter, fresh prompts, and small tasks each week.

A course that gently but clearly guides you back to your very own creativity.

It’s a process, not a sprint. And you move through it at your own pace.

Julia Cameron says: Everyone is creative. And her method helps you rediscover exactly that — even (and especially!) if you haven’t felt it for a long time.

My highlights from “The Artist’s Way”

At the heart of the course are two “must-do” exercises — and from personal experience, I can say:

They are worth the effort and will move you forward.

1. Morning pages

Write three pages every morning. By hand. Without a plan. Without expectations. Just let the jumble of thoughts flow out.

I practiced this several times over weeks and months — and they keep helping me whenever I get stuck somewhere.

Writing Morning Pages is basically like having a conversation with your inner voice, which you otherwise tend to ignore.

They especially help me in times when I’m caught in a mental carousel, with the same questions and worries resurfacing.

Writing those thoughts down once helps you also to let them go.

2. Artist date

Once a week, do something — just for yourself. Completely alone.

I’ve done these regularly over longer periods — and yes, they work!

A visit to the library. An hour in the forest. A café visit with a sketchbook.

It’s not about “performance,” but about surrounding yourself with something new. Awakening your curiosity again.

I’ll be honest: I wish I could say I did everything in the book. That I completed all 12 weeks and every task.

I didn’t.

But you know what? That doesn’t matter at all.

I did what was possible for me at the time. I was gentle with myself.

And what I took with me still accompanies me today.

What stuck with me — even after years?

Some things have become firmly rooted in my daily life.

For example:

I get up an hour earlier to have time just for myself — at first for Morning Pages, now I either do yoga/exercise or dive into an inspiring book.

This has changed my daily rhythm — and strengthened my sense of self.

And even though I don’t do the exercises every day anymore — I’ve learned to better feel what I need in the moment. And then I turn back to these tools.

Favorite quotes that stuck with me

What I also really love about “The Artist’s Way” is the variety of quotes from different personalities.

Here are just a few for you, as a little preview:

“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique.

And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.”

    — Martha Graham

Let me share a text snippet from the book with. I find it very on the point and it my speak to your heart as well:

„As blocked creatives, we like to pretend that a year or even several years is a long, long time.

Our ego plays this little trick to keep us from getting started. Instead of allowing ourselves a creative journey, we focus on the length of the trip.

"It´s such a long way," we tell ourselves. It may be, but each day is just one more day with some motion in it, and that motion toward a goal is very enjoyable.”

    — Julia Cameron (p. 139)

    Who is this book for?

    It’s for you if you...

…have long thought about doing something artistic again

…often feel a bit lost in everyday life

…long for time just for yourself

…wish to give your creative side more space again, relaxed and without pressure.

    Conclusion:

    „The Artist’s Way“ isn’t a typical guidebook. It’s a faithful companion.

A book that reminds you of your creativity, encourages you, challenges you — but never judges you.

And above all: a book that always welcomes you back — no matter how often you’ve stopped or started over.

So if you feel like, “I want to be more me again — to play more, create more, live more,” then I wholeheartedly recommend this book to you. 🌿
